How the eNPS is worked out
Ask your team: how likely are you to recommend this company as a place to work? People answer from 0 to 10.
- Sort each answer. A 9 or 10 is a promoter. A 7 or 8 is a passive. A 0 to 6 is a detractor.
- Divide the promoters by all answers. Divide the detractors by all answers. Turn both into percentages.
- Subtract the detractor percentage from the promoter percentage.
The formula matches customer NPS. Passives count in the total but do not move the score.
A worked example
80 employees answered: 38 promoters, 22 passives and 20 detractors.
- Promoters: 38 of 80 is 47.5%.
- Detractors: 20 of 80 is 25%.
- eNPS: 47.5 minus 25 is 22.5.

How to read your score
The score always sits between -100 and 100.
- Above 0: more of your team would recommend you than not.
- Below 0: more would not.
- 100 means every answer was a 9 or 10. -100 means every answer was a 6 or lower.
Small teams swing a lot: in a team of 10, one answer moves the score by 10 points. Compare your own scores over time and read the comments.
