Pulseri vs in-product feedback tools

Pick Hotjar or Userpilot to watch and guide product use. Pick Pulseri to ask known customers how they feel.

Who each option is best for

  • You want a regular score from customers you can name.
  • You want a survey after a key moment, such as a closed ticket.
  • You want a low score in team chat the same day.
  • You also want to ask your own team, kept apart from customers.

  • You want a quick pop-up question on a page.
  • Your question is about a screen, not how customers feel.

Watching behavior and asking for feelings

An in-product tool sits in your website or app and records what people do. Hotjar shows where visitors click, hover and scroll, and it can replay a real session 3. Userpilot puts guides inside your product, such as tooltips, banners, spotlights and contextual nudges 7. Both can also ask a short question on the page.

A feedback tool asks how a customer feels, and whether that has changed since last quarter. Pulseri keeps a list of People, so each answer belongs to someone you know, and you can see which group of customers is slipping. For a question about one screen, a recording or heatmap is better. For a question about the relationship, a score from a known person is.

How each tool charges

Prices change, so read each plan page on the day you buy.

Hotjar's pricing address now leads to a Contentsquare page. Its Voice of Customer section sells plans by responses each month. A free plan lists 100 responses, and Growth starts at USD 79 a month for 500 to 100,000 responses 1. More answers means a bigger plan.

Userpilot charges by monthly active users, the people who use your product in a month. Starter is listed at USD 299 for up to 2,000 of them, and Growth starts at USD 849 4. The top tier is priced on request.

Pulseri charges by the number of People you track and includes every answer. Larger teams can talk to us about an Enterprise plan.

Hotjar says it is now part of Contentsquare and that new Hotjar accounts can no longer be created 2. If you have an account, ask what changes for you. If you do not, you will start on the Contentsquare side.

Surveys inside a product

Userpilot shows an NPS survey to everyone it can identify, to a saved segment, or to users who match rules on their data and use of the product. A sampling rate limits how many eligible users see it 8.

Pulseri works from the people side. You choose who to ask by facts you already hold, such as plan, team or sign-up date, and the moment, such as a ticket closing. The picture shows a survey set to go out after a closed ticket, with a gap before the same person is asked again.

A team picks a moment (a support ticket is closed), who to ask (any customer who contacted support) and where (by email), then sees the question. By default, the same person gets at most one survey like this a day.

    A support ticket is closed

What your customer gets

How well did we solve your problem today?

Not wellVery well

By default nobody is asked more than once a day.

After the answer arrives

A pop-up that gets a 3 out of 10 helps only if someone sees it. In Pulseri, a rule decides what counts as low. When an answer matches, a chat channel gets a message and a person can follow up. A weekly summary groups the comments by theme.

When an in-product tool is the better choice

Choose Hotjar or a similar tool to see what visitors do on a page.

Choose Userpilot to teach new users with tours and checklists. Pulseri does not build in-app guides.

Choose either if your question is why people dropped off a step, because their reports follow behavior step by step.

Choose Pulseri if you want an answer from a customer you can name, a steady schedule, a gap before you ask again, and a message to your team the same day when someone is unhappy.

Using them together

When a customer scores low, recordings show where people struggled and the comment tells you how it felt. Do not ask the same person in two tools in the same week.

Moving a survey over

  1. Write down the exact wording and scale you use today.
  2. Add your People to Pulseri with the facts you use to group them.
  3. Ask the same question, so the numbers stay close to your old ones.
  4. Choose a low-score rule and the chat channel that should hear about it.
  5. Mark the switch date on any chart you share.

Pulseri does not import old scores. Keep the export from your old tool and compare by date.
