Watching and asking

Hotjar is known for two things. Heatmaps show where users click, hover and scroll, and session recordings replay real visits 3. Both show behavior. You see what a visitor did and guess why.

Pulseri asks. It sends a short question to People you know, such as customers or your own team, and records the score and the comment. You see how a person feels, in their words, and how it changes from one quarter to the next.

A recording shows a visitor who gave up on a form but cannot say what was wrong. A survey says the form felt confusing but cannot show which field caused it. Together they cover the "what" and the "why".

An account change to know about

Hotjar says it is now part of Contentsquare. It states that creating a new Hotjar account is no longer possible, and that new users sign up for Contentsquare's free plan 2. Hotjar's pricing address now leads to the Contentsquare pricing page 1.

If you shop for "Hotjar" today, you will evaluate Contentsquare, a larger product with its own terms. If you already use Hotjar, ask your account contact what the change means for your plan and your data.

How Hotjar charges

On the Contentsquare pricing page, the Voice of Customer section lists a free plan with 100 responses a month and a Growth plan from USD 79 a month for 500 to 100,000 monthly responses 1. More responses mean a bigger plan. The Hotjar page also lists 5 user interviews and 100 survey responses a month on the free plan 4.

Pulseri counts People, the customers and team members you choose to track. Every answer is included, so a strong response rate never raises your bill. Larger teams can talk to us about an Enterprise plan.

Prices change, so read the current page before you decide.

Surveys on both sides

Hotjar lists surveys as one of its tools. Contentsquare's survey page names NPS surveys, exit-intent surveys and popover surveys, and says surveys can be triggered after specific events 5. These aim at visitors on a page, often people you do not know.

Pulseri's surveys aim at People in your list. You choose who to ask by facts you hold, such as plan or sign-up date. The in-app survey appears after an event you choose and keeps the same gap between questions as email. Each answer belongs to a person, so you can follow up.

A team picks a moment (a customer finishes a purchase), who to ask (paid-plan customers not asked in the last 90 days) and where (in the app or by email), then sees the question. By default, the same person is not asked twice in 90 days.

After an unhappy answer

In Pulseri, a rule decides what counts as low, and a matching answer sends a message to a chat channel, so a person can follow up. A weekly summary groups comments by theme.

Where Hotjar is ahead

Heatmaps and recordings show the behavior behind a drop in sign-ups, and a product team can learn from them without asking anyone anything. To improve a page, they are the right instruments.

When Hotjar is the better choice

Choose a behavior tool if you want to see where visitors click and scroll, watch recordings to find a broken step, or answer a question about a page. Choose it if most of your visitors are strangers you will never put in a list.

Choose Pulseri if you want a regular score from customers you can name, a gap before you ask again, your own team in a separate round, and a message to your team when a score is low.

Moving from Hotjar surveys

You can keep your behavior tools and move only the survey.

  1. Write down the exact wording and scale of your current survey.
  2. Add your People to Pulseri with the facts you use to group them.
  3. Ask the same question so the numbers stay close to your old ones.
  4. Choose a low-score rule and the chat channel that should hear about it.
  5. Mark the switch date on any chart you share.

Pulseri does not import old scores. Keep the export from your old tool, and compare by date.
