Pulseri vs feature request boards

Pick Canny for public ideas, votes and a roadmap. Pick Pulseri for scores from People you know. Many teams use both.

Who each option is best for

  • You want to know how customers feel, not only what to build.
  • You want to ask on a schedule, so quiet customers answer too.
  • You want a low score in team chat the same day.
  • You want customer and team feedback in one tool.

  • You want to ask on a schedule, so quiet customers answer too.
  • You want a low score in team chat the same day.
  • You want customer and team feedback in one tool.

Choose a feedback board if

  • You want customers to post and vote on ideas in public.
  • You want a public roadmap that tells voters when ideas ship.
  • You want ideas ranked by votes.
  • Your main question is "what should we build next".

Two different questions

A feedback board answers "what should we build". Customers post an idea, others vote for it with one click, and your team sees which ideas have the most support 2. When the status changes, voters get an email. Canny is the board this page looks at.

Pulseri answers "how do our customers feel, and is it getting better". You choose a group of People, ask a short question such as NPS, and read the trend and the comments. A board hears from people who care enough to post. A survey hears from the people you chose to ask.

How Canny counts

Check each plan page on the day you buy. How a tool counts is more stable than the figure.

Canny counts tracked users, which are people who have given feedback. The Free plan covers 25 of them. Pro starts at USD 79 a month billed yearly, and Business is custom 1. The pricing page describes an optional monthly spend limit that pauses plan upgrades once it is reached.

Pulseri counts People, the customers and team members you chose to track, and includes every answer. Larger teams can talk to us about an Enterprise plan.

What a board does that a survey does not

A board can be public. A customer who sees that 200 people asked for the same thing can follow the idea to release. Canny pairs the board with an internal roadmap, a public roadmap that shows current projects and their progress, and a changelog for release notes 3. That loop of ask, vote, ship and tell is the main reason to run a board.

Pulseri has no public voting or public roadmap. If your customers expect to see their ideas in the open, a board is the right tool.

What a survey does that a board does not

A board waits for people to come to it. Most customers never will. Pulseri asks the right person at the right moment and leaves a gap before it asks again, so the quiet majority gets a turn.

A board also cannot tell you that a customer's score fell from 9 to 4. Pulseri keeps each person's score over time. When an answer matches your low-score rule, a chat channel gets a message. The picture shows the trend and the comments behind it.

The average score dips in week 6, from 8.1 to 6.2. Of that week's comments, 14 are about slow exports, 6 about confusing pricing and 3 about help arriving late. A summary says the score fell mostly because exports got slower.

In short

The score fell from 8.1 to 6.2 in week 6, mostly because exports got slower. It is recovering since.

Both tools find themes. Canny says its Autopilot feature surfaces themes across all feedback 4. Pulseri tags each comment with a sentiment and a theme and writes a weekly summary. Read a sample of each before you decide.

Connecting to your other tools

Canny's pricing page lists Slack, Microsoft Teams and Discord for notifications, and project tool integrations under Pro 5. That suits a product team that wants ideas to land in its backlog.

Pulseri sends low scores to a chat channel and can start a survey from an event, such as a payment or a closed ticket. It does not push ideas into a backlog.

When a board is the better choice

Choose a board if you need a ranked list of ideas that customers can see and follow, want to tell every voter when their idea ships, or have customers who already expect one.

Choose Pulseri if you need to know how customers feel, want to ask your own team too, or need a message the same day when one customer is unhappy.

Running both without double asking

Use the board for ideas, open all year. Use Pulseri for the score, sent on a schedule or after a moment that matters. When a low score arrives, read the comment, then check whether the board already holds the same complaint.

Starting small

  1. Add a small group of customers as People, with the facts you use to group them.
  2. Pick one question and send it to that group.
  3. Choose a low-score rule and the chat channel that should hear about it.
  4. After a month, compare the themes in the comments with the top ideas on your board.

Common questions

No. A board collects ideas that people choose to post and vote on. An NPS tool asks a set group of People for a score. The board shows what people want. The score shows how they feel.
